Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Kelsey Lu was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. She grew up in a very strict home. Both of her parents are musicians. Her dad plays percussion, and her mom plays piano. Her father's family comes from Nigeria.
Kelsey started learning classical music when she was just six years old. She learned to play the piano, violin, and cello. When she was 18, she left home to attend the University of North Carolina School of the Arts on a scholarship. However, she left the school a year later.
Her Music Journey
Kelsey Lu recorded her first collection of songs, called an EP (Extended Play), in a church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. This EP was named Church and was released in 2016. While working on her music, she also toured with the band Wet, performing before their shows.
In 2019, Kelsey Lu released her first full-length album, titled Blood. Later that same year, she released Blood Transfusion. This was a collection of remixes, which are new versions of the songs from her Blood album. Kelsey Lu uses they/them pronouns.
