Kelvin quickly showed how talented he was. In only four years, he became a soloist, meaning he performed important parts on his own. By 1968, he was promoted to a principal dancer, which is a very high rank. In 1974, he reached the top position of premier danseur, meaning he was the leading male dancer.

Kelvin Coe became well-known as one of Australia's best male dancers. He performed not only in Australia but also toured around the world. He danced in the UK, the US, and even the USSR (now Russia). Some of his most famous roles included Albrecht in the ballet Giselle and Espada in Don Quixote. The famous dancer Rudolf Nureyev directed the Don Quixote show he was in.

They danced the main roles in Don Quixote.

In 1974, Kelvin Coe also danced with the London Festival Ballet. He performed in ballets like Les Sylphides and The Prodigal Son. He also danced with several American dance companies that year. Later, in the 1980s, he returned to Australia to dance under the direction of Maina Gielgud.
