The Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena was once a popular place for sports inside the Kelvin Hall building in Glasgow, Scotland. It hosted many exciting athletics events. These included big competitions like the 1990 European Athletics Indoor Championships. It also hosted the Glasgow International Match from 1988 until 2012. After that, the sports events moved to the newer Commonwealth Arena.

The Kelvin Hall is a large, historic building in Glasgow, Scotland. It has been used for many different things over the years. Today, it is a modern cultural and sports center. It offers a gym, sports facilities, and houses parts of the city's museums.

The History of Kelvin Hall

The Kelvin Hall was finished in 1927. It is located in the west part of Glasgow, close to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. When it first opened, it was used for huge exhibitions. For example, it hosted industrial shows for the Festival of Britain in 1951.

Over many years, the building also held car shows and modern home exhibitions. It was even home to the famous Kelvin Hall Circus! Lions, tigers, and elephants entertained people in Glasgow for years. Many people still remember the unique smell of the carnival after visiting the circus. In 1988, a new sports arena opened inside the building. The Museum of Transport also moved in around that time.

After the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre opened in 1985, Kelvin Hall needed an update. It became home to the International Sports Arena. This indoor arena hosted many international sports events. These included athletics, boxing, and badminton competitions.

The Glasgow Rocks basketball team used the Kelvin Hall as their home court. They played in the British Basketball League. The Rocks played at the 1,200-seat Kelvin Hall from 2008 to 2012. They then moved to the much larger 5,000-seat Commonwealth Arena for the 2012–2013 season.
