Kelvin Orlando Moore (born September 26, 1957 – died November 9, 2014) was an American professional baseball player. He played as a first baseman in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Oakland Athletics. He was part of the team for parts of three seasons, from 1981 to 1983.
Early Life and College
Kelvin Moore was born in Leroy, Alabama. He went to Leroy High School in his hometown. After high school, he attended Jackson State University.
While at Jackson State, Kelvin played college baseball. His skills caught the eye of professional scouts. In 1978, he was chosen by a major league team in the sixth round of the 1978 Major League Baseball Draft. This meant he had a chance to play professional baseball.
Professional Baseball Career
Kelvin Moore began his professional baseball journey in the minor leagues. He worked his way up through different teams. Finally, he made his debut in Major League Baseball.
His first MLB game was on August 28, 1981. He played for the Oakland Athletics. Kelvin played as a first baseman, a position that requires good fielding and hitting skills. He continued to play for the Athletics until June 2, 1983.
During his time in the major leagues, Kelvin played in 58 games. He had a batting average of .223. This means he got a hit about 22.3% of the times he tried to hit the ball. He also hit 8 home runs and had 25 runs batted in (RBIs). RBIs are when a player's hit helps a teammate score a run.
Later Life
After his time in Major League Baseball, Kelvin Moore continued to be involved in baseball. He passed away on November 9, 2014, in Covington, Georgia.
