Ken Ishikawa (石川賢, Ishikawa Ken, June 28, 1948 – November 15, 2006) was a Japanese manga artist, which means he drew and wrote Japanese comic books. He is famous for helping create the awesome Getter Robo anime series with his friend, Go Nagai. They also worked together on four more Getter Robo manga stories. Go Nagai said that Ken Ishikawa was his best friend and partner in creating these exciting worlds.

Ken Ishikawa's Life

Ken Ishikawa was born on June 28, 1948. He became a very important artist in the world of manga and anime. His work often featured giant robots and action-packed adventures. He inspired many other artists and writers.

His Passing

Ken Ishikawa passed away on November 15, 2006. He had a sudden heart problem after a fun day of golfing. He was 58 years old.

Inspiring Other Creators

Kazuki Nakashima, who was the main editor for the Getter Robo Saga collection, said that Ken Ishikawa was a huge influence on him. Kazuki Nakashima even gave a speech at Ken Ishikawa's funeral, calling himself Ken Ishikawa's biggest fan. He used Ishikawa's ideas when he worked on the anime show Gurren Lagann.

When Ken Ishikawa first started drawing, his art looked a lot like his teacher's, Go Nagai. Over time, he developed his own amazing style.

One of Ken Ishikawa's manga stories, Gokudō Heiki, was made into a movie called Yakuza Weapon in 2011. This movie was made to honor Ken Ishikawa and his work.
