Playing Career
Ken Judge started his football journey playing for the East Fremantle team in the Western Australian Football League (WAFL). He was a talented player who made a big impact.
Hawthorn Football Club
In 1983, Ken Judge joined the Hawthorn Football Club. He quickly became an important player. In his very first season, he helped Hawthorn win a premiership. This is like winning the championship! He also won the "Best First Year Player" award for his team.
Ken Judge continued to play in the Grand Finals in 1984 and 1985. However, in 1986, he found it harder to get picked for games.
Brisbane Bears
After his time at Hawthorn, Ken Judge moved to the Brisbane Bears. He played for them in 1987 and 1988.
Coaching Career
After his playing days, Ken Judge became a football coach.
Carlton Football Club Assistant Coach (1995)
In 1995, Ken Judge became an assistant coach for the Carlton Football Club. That year, Carlton had a very successful season and won the premiership. The head coach at Carlton, David Parkin, who used to be a captain and coach at Hawthorn, recommended Ken Judge for a senior coaching role.
Hawthorn Football Club Senior Coach (1996-1999)
From 1996 to 1999, Ken Judge was the main coach for the Hawthorn Football Club. In his first year, 1996, his team finished 8th and made it to the finals.
However, in the next few years, Hawthorn struggled. They finished 15th in 1997 and 13th in 1998. In 1999, they just missed out on the finals, finishing 9th. Ken Judge then decided to leave his coaching role at Hawthorn, even though he still had a year left on his contract. Peter Schwab took over as the new coach.
West Coast Eagles Senior Coach (2000-2001)
After leaving Hawthorn, Ken Judge went back to Western Australia. He became the head coach for the West Coast Eagles for the 2000 and 2001 seasons. Mick Malthouse had been the coach before him.
His time with the West Coast Eagles was not very successful. The team finished 13th in 2000 and 14th in 2001. Because of these results, he was let go at the end of the 2001 season. John Worsfold then became the new coach for the West Coast Eagles.
Radio Career
After his coaching career, Ken Judge worked as a sports commentator. He worked for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) on their program called ABC Radio Grandstand.
Death
Ken Judge passed away in Perth, Western Australia, on January 15, 2016. It was his 58th birthday. He had been diagnosed with a blood condition called multiple myeloma in 2010 and had received treatment for it. He was laid to rest on January 25 in Perth.
