Kenji Wakamatsu was born in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. He loved playing football when he was young. After going to Fukuoka University, he decided to become a professional player. In 1993, he joined a team named Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
Playing for Sanfrecce Hiroshima

He got this opportunity because another important player, Takuya Takagi, was away. Takagi was playing for the Japanese national team. So, Kenji stepped in to help his club.
