Kenneth Bridgeforth Spaulding (born November 29, 1944) is an American politician and lawyer. He is from Durham, North Carolina. Spaulding is a member of the Democratic Party. He served in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1978 to 1984.

His Early Life and Education
Ken Spaulding comes from a family with a history of public service. His father, Asa T. Spaulding Sr., was a president of the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. His mother, Elna Spaulding, was the first woman to serve as a commissioner for Durham County. His grandfather, George Ruffin Bridgeforth, was an administrator at Tuskegee Institute.
Spaulding attended Howard University. He graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He studied Government. He also took classes in Business Administration and Sociology. Later, he earned his law degree. He received his Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1970.
Ken Spaulding's Political Career
Ken Spaulding began his political career in the late 1970s. He was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives. He served there from 1978 to 1984. This role allowed him to help make laws for the state.
In 1984, Spaulding ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives. He wanted to represent North Carolina's 2nd district. He challenged the person who already held the seat, Tim Valentine. Spaulding received many votes but did not win the election.
Later, Spaulding served on the North Carolina Board of Transportation. This board helps manage the state's roads and transit. He was appointed to this position by Governor Mike Easley.
In 2013, Ken Spaulding announced he would run for governor. He sought the Democratic nomination in the 2016 North Carolina gubernatorial election. He ran against Roy Cooper in the primary election. Spaulding lost the primary. Roy Cooper then went on to win the general election for governor.
