Itimous Thaddeus "Tim" Valentine Jr. (born March 15, 1926 – died November 10, 2015) was an important American politician. He was a member of the Democratic Party. Tim Valentine served in the United States House of Representatives for North Carolina. He represented his state from 1983 to 1995. This means he helped make laws for the entire country.

Early Life and Education
Tim Valentine was born on March 15, 1926, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He went to public schools in his hometown. His father, also named Itimous, was a judge on the State Supreme Court. His mother, Hazel Armstrong, worked as a postmistress. Tim also had an uncle, Frank A. Armstrong, who became a Lieutenant General in the United States Air Force.
Serving His Country
During World War II, Tim Valentine joined the United States Army Air Corps. He served actively in the military from 1944 to 1946.
Becoming a Lawyer
After the war, Tim Valentine continued his education. He graduated from The Citadel, a military college in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1948. Later, he studied law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He finished law school in 1952. That same year, he became a lawyer in North Carolina. He practiced law in Nashville, North Carolina, with his family's law firm.
Political Career and Public Service
Tim Valentine dedicated many years to public service. He started his political journey in his home state.
North Carolina State Politics
From 1955 to 1960, Valentine served in the North Carolina House of Representatives. This is where state laws are made. After that, he worked as an advisor for Governor Dan K. Moore. He also led the executive committee of the North Carolina Democratic Party from 1966 to 1968. In 1968, he was a delegate at the Democratic National Convention.
Serving in Congress
In 1982, Tim Valentine was elected to the United States House of Representatives. He represented North Carolina's 2nd congressional district. He served six terms in Congress, which means he was in office for 12 years. He decided not to run for re-election in 1994. He retired from his elected position in January 1995. A part of U.S. Highway 64 near Nashville is named after him. This honors his many years of public service.

Tim Valentine passed away at his home in Nashville, North Carolina, on November 10, 2015. He was 89 years old and died from heart failure.
