Kenny Selmon (born August 27, 1996) is an American track and field athlete. He is best known for running the 400 metres hurdles, which is a race where athletes jump over obstacles. Kenny won the USA Outdoor Championship in 2018. He also represented the United States at the 2018 Athletics World Cup in London, where he won the 400 metres hurdles race.

Early Life and High School Achievements

Kenny Selmon grew up in Mableton, Georgia. He went to high school at Pace Academy in Atlanta. During his high school years, Kenny was a very successful athlete. He won seven state championships in track and field. He was also named an All-American three times for his performance in the 400 metres hurdles. In 2013, while still in high school, Kenny placed third at the World Youth Championships. He also won the National Championship in 2014.

College Career at UNC

After high school, Kenny Selmon attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There, he continued to compete in track and field, both indoors and outdoors. While at UNC, Kenny won two ACC Championships in the 400 metres hurdles. The ACC is a major college sports conference. He also placed very high in the NCAA Division I National Championships. He finished 4th in 2016, 3rd in 2017, and 2nd in 2018.

His fastest time in college for the 400 metres hurdles was 48.12 seconds. He achieved this time at the 2018 NCAA Division I Championships. This time is the fastest in the history of the University of North Carolina. In 2016, while still in college, Kenny competed in the Olympic Team Trials. He finished 7th in that competition. After graduating from UNC, Kenny won the 2018 USATF Outdoor Championships in the 400 metres hurdles.

Professional Career and International Success

After finishing college, Kenny Selmon became a professional athlete. He represented the United States at the 2018 London Athletics World Cup. He won the 400 metres hurdles event at this important international competition. In 2019, Kenny signed a professional contract with Spyder Korea. This meant he would be paid to compete in track and field. Kenny Selmon qualified for the U.S. Olympic team in the 400 metres hurdles in 2021.
