Kenta Kawai (川井 健太, Kawai Kenta, born June 7, 1981) is a Japanese professional football manager and former player. He was most recently the manager for the Sagan Tosu football club. Kenta's brother, Koichi Kawai, is also a football player.
Kenta Kawai's Playing Days
Kenta Kawai was born in Uwajima, Japan, on June 7, 1981. After finishing university, he joined a football club called Ehime FC in 2004. This club was based in his hometown.
His brother, Koichi Kawai, was already playing for Ehime FC since 2001. Kenta played in many games during his first year. However, he did not play at all in 2005.
In 2006, his club, Ehime FC, moved up to a higher league called J2 League. Kenta did not play many matches that year. He decided to stop playing professional football at the end of the 2006 season.
Kenta Kawai's Coaching Career
After he stopped playing, Kenta Kawai started working as a coach. He began coaching at Ehime Women's College in 2008. This college was also in his hometown of Uwajima. He coached there until 2017.
In 2012, he also started coaching for a women's football club called Ehime FC Ladies. He worked as a coach under the manager Kenichi Ego. Kenichi Ego was also a teammate of Kenta when they played together in 2006.
In 2015, Kenta Kawai became the manager of Ehime FC Ladies. He took over from Kenichi Ego. He managed the team until 2017.
In 2018, Kenta Kawai joined the J2 League club Ehime FC again. This time, he became a manager for their youth team. In May 2018, the main team's manager was removed. The club was in 20th place out of 22 teams. Kenta Kawai then became the new manager for the main Ehime FC team. He helped the club improve and they finished in 18th place in the 2018 season.
