Kevin M. Brooks (born March 30, 1959) is an English writer. He is famous for his books for young adults. His novel The Bunker Diary won a big award called the Carnegie Medal in 2013. This award is for the best new book for children or young adults in the UK. His win was a bit controversial among librarians.

Kevin Brooks's Early Life
Kevin Brooks was born in Pinhoe, near Exeter, England. He was the second of three brothers.
When he was 11, he won a special scholarship. This allowed him to attend Exeter School. He felt different from the other students there. They came from wealthier families. Kevin found comfort and escape in reading fiction. Later, he studied psychology and philosophy. He went to Aston University in Birmingham. His father passed away when Kevin was 20 years old.
Kevin Brooks's Writing Career
Kevin Brooks's first novel was Martyn Pig. It came out in 2003. Chicken House published it. Barry Cunningham, who started the company, edited the book.
Martyn Pig won the Branford Boase Award. This award celebrates great British novels for young people. It also recognizes the author and their editor.
One of his most popular books is Killing God from 2009. In North America, it was called Dawn. This story is about a character named Dawn. She thinks about killing God. She blames God for her father's disappearance. The book explores deep questions about faith and loss.
In 2011, Kevin Brooks started writing adult thrillers. These books feature a private detective. They are set in a made-up English city.
