Kevin Ferrer's Early Basketball Days

High School Highlights

Kevin Ferrer started his basketball journey playing for the Tiger Cubs in high school from 2009 to 2010. In his very first year, he was named the Junior's Rookie of the Year. He helped his team finish second in the elimination rounds. However, they were stopped in the Final Four by the Kiefer Ravena-led Ateneo Blue Eaglets.

In his last year with the Tiger Cubs, Kevin was named the Junior's Most Valuable Player. He led his team all the way to the Finals. They faced Kiefer Ravena and the Blue Eaglets again. Even though Kevin scored an amazing 35 points in one game, his team lost the series.

College Days and Growing as a Player

Starting Strong at UST

Even with offers from other schools, Kevin chose to stay at his alma mater, the UST. He joined the Tigers in 2011 for his rookie college season. He quickly became an important player, helping the Tigers reach the Final Four. They faced the Ateneo Blue Eagles again and lost a close game.

Reaching the UAAP Finals

In his second year, Kevin helped the Tigers get back to the UAAP Finals. They beat the NU Bulldogs to get there. In the Finals, they played against the Ateneo Blue Eagles but were swept, meaning they lost both games.

Later that year, Kevin played a big role in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL). His team, the Tigers, won the championship by beating the Blue Eagles in a thrilling three-game series. This was a sweet victory for them!

Becoming a Key Defender

In his third season, Kevin became known as the main defender for the Tigers. He was great at stopping the best scorers from other teams. He also had some amazing scoring games, especially in the Final Four. The Tigers made history by being the first fourth-seeded team to beat a first-seeded team in the UAAP Final Four. They reached the Finals for the second year in a row.

Facing Challenges and Injuries

In his fourth season, Kevin faced a tough challenge. He suffered a fracture in his left hand during practice. This injury made him miss the rest of the season. His team missed the Final Four that year.

For his final season, Kevin led his team to the finals once more. They played against the FEU Tamaraws. In Game 2, he made six three-pointers, helping his team force a Game 3. However, they eventually lost the championship.

Kevin Ferrer's Professional Career

Becoming a Pro Player

In 2016, Kevin Ferrer started his professional career by joining the Mighty Sports team. Soon after, he was drafted by Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the 2016 PBA draft. He signed a three-year contract. In his very first PBA game, he scored 3 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.

Winning Championships with Ginebra

Kevin quickly showed his skills. In one game, he scored a career-high 25 points. He was also named a PBA All-Star in 2017. He helped Ginebra win two championships: the 2017 Governors' Cup and the 2018 Commissioner's Cup.

Moving Teams and New Challenges

In 2019, Kevin was traded to the NorthPort Batang Pier. This trade reunited him with his former college coach, Pido Jarencio. In his first game with NorthPort, he scored 23 points. However, a foot injury kept him out of the playoffs that year.

He continued to face injuries, including another foot injury in 2020. Despite this, he showed his strength by scoring 20 points in a comeback game for NorthPort in 2021. In 2022, he signed a new two-year contract with the Batang Pier.

Joining Terrafirma Dyip

On January 12, 2023, Kevin was traded to the Terrafirma Dyip team. Unfortunately, he suffered an Achilles injury during a preseason game. This injury meant he would be out for a long time. While recovering, he signed a one-year contract extension with the team in February 2024.
