Professional Basketball Career

Starting in Semi-Pro Leagues

Mighty Sports (2016)

In 2016, Kiefer joined Mighty Sports to improve his skills before joining the professional league. He helped Mighty Sports win the Republica Cup. He also played well in the PCBL, earning the Most Valuable Player award.

Texas Legends (2016)

Later in 2016, Kiefer was signed by the Texas Legends of the NBA D-League as a "developmental player." This meant he would practice with the team but wasn't on their official playing roster.

Joining Professional Teams

Alab Pilipinas (2017)

In March 2017, Kiefer officially signed with Alab Pilipinas in the ABL. He made his debut in the semifinals, scoring 16 points.

NLEX Road Warriors (2017–2021)

Kiefer joined the 2017 PBA draft and was picked second overall by the NLEX Road Warriors. He signed a three-year contract with them. In his first PBA game, he had 18 points, 12 assists, and 7 rebounds. He quickly earned his first PBA Player of the Week award.

In May 2018, Kiefer faced a challenge when FIBA suspended him for 18 months. This was because he tested positive for a substance that was not allowed in sports. NLEX supported him, saying he took a pre-workout aid without knowing it contained the prohibited substance. He rejoined the team in September 2019. In September 2020, he signed a new three-year contract with NLEX.

Shiga Lakestars/Lakes (2021–2024)

In June 2021, Japan's B. League team, the Shiga Lakestars, announced they signed Kiefer. There was some discussion because of his contract with NLEX. However, in September 2021, NLEX officially released him, allowing him to join the Lakestars. He debuted on October 2, playing against his brother Thirdy, and had 11 points, 8 assists, and 3 steals. Kiefer played for the Lakes until 2024.

Kiefer played for the Sinag Pilipinas team at the 2011 Southeast Asian Games and won a gold medal. He continued to win gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019. This made him the first Filipino basketball player to win five straight SEA Games gold medals.

He was also part of the Gilas Pilipinas team that competed in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers. In 2023, Kiefer was part of the final 12-man lineup for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

National 3x3 Team

Suspension and Return

In May 2018, Kiefer was suspended by FIBA for 18 months from all basketball activities. This was due to a substance that was not allowed in sports. Kiefer explained that he took a supplement without knowing it contained the prohibited substance. FIBA noted that this happened because Kiefer lacked education about anti-doping rules.

After his suspension, Kiefer returned to the national team. He represented the Philippines in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, where he won his fifth gold medal.
