Kevin Grubb (born April 19, 1978 – died May 6, 2009) was an American race car driver from Mechanicsville, Virginia. He was known for competing in NASCAR's junior racing series. Kevin was also the younger brother of another race car driver, Wayne Grubb.
Kevin Grubb's Racing Career
Kevin Grubb spent most of his racing career in the NASCAR Busch Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. He was a talented driver who achieved several top finishes during his time in the sport.
NASCAR Cup Series Attempts
Kevin Grubb tried to race in the top-level NASCAR Cup Series only once. This happened in 2002 at the Richmond track. He drove the #54 Toys "R" Us Chevy car for Team Bristol Motorsports.
However, he was not able to qualify for the race. During his qualifying lap, he spun out, which meant he couldn't make it into the main event.
Busch Series Highlights
Grubb started racing in the NASCAR Busch Series in 1997. He made four starts that year with his father's team, Grubb Motorsports. His first race was at New Hampshire, where he finished 38th.
In 1998, he raced in 16 Busch Series events for Grubb Motorsports. He performed very well, even getting his first pole position (starting first) at Dover. In that same race, he finished second, which was a great achievement. His brother, Wayne Grubb, was also his teammate.
After his successful 1998 season, Grubb joined Brewco Motorsports in 1999. He raced for them until 2001. During these three years, he earned 18 top-ten finishes. His best overall season was in 2000, when he finished 13th in the points standings.
In 2002, he moved to Team Bristol Motorsports, but the team had many problems, and he left by the end of the season. In 2003, he raced part-time for Carroll Motorsports. He drove well, but often faced engine issues or got caught in accidents. Carroll Motorsports closed down after the 2003 season.
Grubb returned to the Busch Series in 2006, racing in five events for Mac Hill Motorsports. His time with the team ended in September 2006.
Camping World Truck Series Highlights
Kevin Grubb also started his career in the NASCAR Truck Series with his family's team, Grubb Motorsports. In 1996, he made two starts. In his first race at Richmond, he started in 8th place and finished 18th. His second race ended early due to an accident.
He made one more start in the Truck Series in 1997 at Nazareth, where he finished 13th.
In August 2006, he briefly drove for Billy Ballew Motorsports. However, this effort also ended in September 2006.
Later Life and Passing
Kevin Grubb was found dead on May 6, 2009, in Richmond, Virginia. He was 31 years old.
