Kevin Ray was born on December 11, 1977. He is an American stock car racing driver. Kevin is the son of another famous racer, Johnny Ray. He used to compete in the NASCAR Busch Series and the ARCA Racing Series. Later, he became a director for a racing team called Turner Scott Motorsports.
Kevin Ray's Early Racing Days
Kevin Ray started racing when he was very young. He began driving special small race cars called midget cars at just 7 years old. By the time he was 11, he had already won his first race!
A famous racer named Donnie Allison helped guide Kevin in his early career. In 1994, when Kevin was only 16, he joined the ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Supercar Series. His first race was at the Atlanta International Raceway. He raced in 20 ARCA events between 1994 and 2004. His best finish was fourth place at Talladega Superspeedway in 1995.
In 1995, Kevin also tried racing in NASCAR. He competed in the Busch Series, which is now called the Xfinity Series. He raced at Indianapolis Raceway Park in a car owned by his father. He started in 35th place and finished 21st. This was his only race in the Busch Series. He tried to qualify for four more races between 1995 and 2003, but he didn't make it into those races.
Trying for the Cup Series
In 2004, Kevin Ray had a chance to race in the top NASCAR series, the Nextel Cup Series. He signed a deal with Donlavey Racing to drive their No. 90 Ford car for six races. The car even had a funny sponsor, Boudreaux's Butt Paste!
His first planned race was at Dover International Speedway. However, the team's car didn't pass the safety check. After that, the deal didn't work out. Kevin did race one more time in ARCA at Pocono Raceway, which was his last ARCA race. Interestingly, in 2008, ESPN The Magazine called Kevin Ray's No. 90 Ford car the fifth "scariest" NASCAR paint scheme ever!
Life After Racing
Kevin Ray graduated from Walter Wellborn High School. He has now stopped racing cars himself. However, he still works in the racing world. From 2007 to 2013, he was the team manager for Red Horse Racing.
In January 2014, Kevin joined Turner Scott Motorsports. He became the team's director of business operations. This means he helped manage how the business side of the racing team worked.
