Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Keysville is a small, quiet place in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's not a big city but an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a town or city. You can find Keysville in the southwest part of Crawford County, about six miles south of a town called Steelville. This community is also right next to a stream known as Crooked Creek.

Keysville's Past

Keysville has a history that goes back many years. A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, opened here in 1873. This post office served the community for a long time, helping people connect through letters and packages, until it finally closed its doors in 1955. The name "Keysville" comes from an important early settler named Elijah Key. He was one of the first people to live and build a community in this area.
