Khaleel M. Anderson, born on June 11, 1996, is an American politician from New York. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Since November 2020, Anderson has represented the 31st district in the New York State Assembly. This area is located in Southeast Queens.
Khaleel's Early Life and Education
Khaleel Anderson was born in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. In 2005, his family moved to Far Rockaway, Queens. They moved because rents were getting too high. Khaleel went to Queens College. He graduated in 2019 with a degree in Urban Studies. This field helps people understand cities and how they work.
Becoming a Politician
In 2020, Khaleel Anderson decided to run for office. He ran as a Democrat for the New York State Assembly's 31st district. The person who held this seat before, Michele Titus, had left to become a judge.
Khaleel had support from groups that wanted to see new, progressive leaders. He won the Democratic primary election. A primary election is when people from the same party vote to choose their best candidate. This was a big win because the 31st district usually votes for Democrats.
After winning the primary, Khaleel easily won the main election. When he joined the Assembly, he became the youngest member in 20 years. He also became the youngest Black member in the history of the Assembly.
Before becoming an Assembly member, Khaleel was active in his community. He was part of Queens Community Board 14. He also helped with the New York City Police Department 101st Precinct Community Council. He was also involved with the Far Rockaway chapter of the NAACP, a group that works for civil rights.
