Michele R. Titus is an American judge and former politician from Queens, New York. She has been a New York City Civil Court Judge since January 2020. Before becoming a judge, Ms. Titus was a member of the New York State Assembly from 2002 to 2020. She is a member of the Democratic Party.

About Michele R. Titus
Michele R. Titus grew up in Queens, New York. She went to John Adams High School. After high school, she studied political science at Binghamton University and earned her bachelor's degree in 1990. She then went to Albany Law School to become a lawyer, getting her law degree in 1993. She officially became a lawyer in New York in 1994.
Early Career and Public Service
Before she was elected to the Assembly, Ms. Titus worked in several important roles. She was the Chief of Staff for Senator Ada L. Smith. She also served as an executive director for the New York State Black and Puerto Rican Legislative Caucus.
Ms. Titus also used her law degree to help people. She was an attorney for the New York City Board of Education. She also worked for the Consumer Frauds Bureau in the New York State Attorney General's Office. Later, she worked for the Integrity Bureau in the Queens County District Attorney's office.
Serving in the New York State Assembly
Michele Titus was first elected to the New York State Assembly in a special election on April 16, 2002. This election was held to find a replacement for Assembly member Pauline Rhodd-Cummings, who had passed away. Ms. Titus also won the main election later that year with a large majority of the votes.
She ran for re-election without any opponents in 2008 and 2010. The district she represented included neighborhoods like Far Rockaway, Rosedale, Laurelton, Springfield Gardens, South Ozone Park, and South Richmond Hill.
While in the Assembly, Ms. Titus worked on many different topics. She served on several important committees. These included committees for Children and Families, Codes, Judiciary, Small Business, and Local Governments.
Becoming a Civil Court Judge
On November 5, 2019, Michele Titus was elected to become a New York City Civil Court Judge. She officially started her new role in January 2020. When she became a judge, she left her seat in the New York State Assembly.
