Michele R. Titus is an American politician and judge from Queens, New York. She has served as a New York City Civil Court Judge since January 2020. Before becoming a judge, Ms. Titus was a member of the New York State Assembly. She represented District 31 from 2002 to 2020. She is a member of the Democratic Party.

About Michele Titus
Michele Titus grew up in Queens, New York, and has lived there her whole life. She went to John Adams High School. After high school, she studied political science at Binghamton University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990.
Education and Early Career
Ms. Titus continued her education at Albany Law School. She earned her law degree, called a Juris Doctor (J.D.), in 1993. The next year, in 1994, she became a licensed lawyer in New York State.
Before she was elected to the Assembly, Ms. Titus worked in several important roles. She was a top assistant, known as Chief of Staff, for Senator Ada Smith. She also helped lead the New York State Black and Puerto Rican Legislative Caucus.
She worked as a lawyer for the New York City Board of Education. This board helps manage public schools in New York City. She also worked for the New York State Attorney General's Office. There, she helped protect people from fraud. She also worked for the District Attorney's office in Queens County.
Serving in the State Assembly
Michele Titus was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 2002. This was a special election held on April 16, 2002. She took the place of Assembly member Pauline Rhodd-Cummings. Ms. Titus also won the main election later that year in November. She received a large majority of the votes.
She ran for re-election without any opponents in 2008 and 2010. This means no one else ran against her in those elections.
Representing District 31
Ms. Titus represented District 31 in the Assembly. This district includes several neighborhoods in Queens. Some of these areas are Far Rockaway, Rosedale, Laurelton, and Springfield Gardens. It also includes South Ozone Park and South Richmond Hill.

Becoming a Judge
On November 5, 2019, Michele Titus was elected as a New York City Civil Court Judge. She officially started her new role in January 2020. When she became a judge, she left her seat in the State Assembly.
