Khalida Zahir (born 1927, died 2015) was a very important woman from Sudan. She was one of the first female doctors in her country. She also worked hard to make things better for women.

Early Life and Education
Khalida Zahir was born in a city called Omdurman. She studied medicine at the Kitchener School of Medicine. This school later became part of the University of Khartoum. In 1952, she finished her studies. Another woman named Z Serkisiani also graduated with her.
A Pioneer in Medicine
Khalida and Z Serkisiani made history in Sudan. They were the very first female doctors in the country! Khalida cared deeply for people. She often treated poor patients at her clinic without charging them any money. Later, she became the head of children's health (paediatrics) at Sudan's Ministry of Health. She stopped working in 1986.
Fighting for Women's Rights
Khalida Zahir was also a strong activist for women's rights. In 1947, she became the first female member of the student union. The same year, she joined talks about peace in southern Sudan.
She was one of the few women to join a political party in the 1940s. In 1948, she helped start the Young Women's Cultural Society with Fatima Talib. This was the first women's organization in Sudan. It taught women about health, reading, and writing.
In 1952, Khalida helped create the Sudanese Women's Union (SWU). This group worked to get women the right to vote. They also fought for better working conditions for women. Khalida was chosen as the president of the SWU in 1958.
Later Years
Khalida Zahir passed away on June 9, 2015. She is remembered as a brave pioneer for both medicine and women's rights in Sudan.
