Khin Maung Kyi (born September 10, 1926 – died September 6, 2013) was an important economist and scholar from Myanmar (formerly Burma). He was also an advisor to the government of Burma, helping different ministries with their plans.

Early Life and Education
Khin Maung Kyi was born in Phyu, a small town in central Burma. He studied at the University of Rangoon and earned a bachelor's degree in commerce. This degree focused on business and trade.
Later, he received a special scholarship. This allowed him to attend Harvard University in the United States. There, he earned a master's degree in business administration. He then continued his studies at Cornell University. He earned a doctorate degree in management, which is the highest level of education in that field.
Career as a Professor and Editor
From 1954 to 1978, Khin Maung Kyi worked at the University of Rangoon. He was a lecturer and then a professor at the Institute of Economics. A lecturer teaches university classes. A professor is a senior teacher and researcher.
In 1978, Khin Maung Kyi moved to Malaysia. He became a professor of agribusiness at Universiti Pertanian Malaysia. Agribusiness is about the business side of farming. In 1979, he joined the National University of Singapore. He worked as an Associate Professor in the School of Management until 1988.
In 1983, he started an important academic magazine. It was called the Asia Pacific Journal of Management. This journal became the main publication for the NUS Business School (then called the School of Management). From 1983 to 1988, he was the first editor-in-chief of this journal. An editor-in-chief leads the team that decides what articles get published. In 1991, he became a senior fellow in the Department of Business Policy at the National University of Singapore.
Later Years and Death
Khin Maung Kyi passed away on September 6, 2013. This was just four days before his 87th birthday. He had been sick with various illnesses for some years. The main cause of his death was problems from a lung infection. He was survived by his wife and his four children.
