Arthur Cary (born September 23, 1891 – died May 25, 1964) was a talented American baseball player. People often called him "Kid". He was known for playing as a third baseman in the Negro leagues during the 1910s. Sometimes, his last name was spelled "Carey".
Kid Cary's Baseball Journey
Arthur Cary was born in Clarksville, Tennessee. He started his professional baseball career in 1915. His first team was the St. Louis Giants. He played with the Giants for a few years, showing off his skills at third base.
Playing in the Negro Leagues
During Arthur Cary's time, baseball was different. African American players like him were not allowed to play in the major leagues. Because of this, they created their own professional teams and leagues. These were called the Negro leagues. These leagues were very important. They gave amazing Black baseball players a chance to play professionally. They also entertained many fans across the country.
His Teams and Career
Kid Cary played for the St. Louis Giants from 1915 to 1917. In 1918, he joined another team called the Dayton Marcos. After one season with the Marcos, he returned to the St. Louis Giants in 1919. He finished his baseball career with the Giants that year. Arthur Cary passed away in St. Louis, Missouri in 1964. He was 72 years old.
