The Kilby Hotel was a special historic building in High Point, North Carolina. Built in 1910, it was a three-story brick hotel. The first floor had shops, and the upper floors were for guests. It was known for its pretty brickwork and arched windows.

A Special Place in History

The Kilby Hotel was very important to the African-American community in High Point. It was one of the most significant businesses owned by Black people in the city. The hotel mainly served African-American visitors and locals. During a time when many places were segregated, it offered a welcoming and safe place for them to stay and gather.

Its Legacy and Demolition

The Kilby Hotel was recognized for its historical importance. In 1982, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This list helps protect important buildings across the country.

Sadly, the building faced problems later on. In 2012, experts decided the structure was no longer safe. After some of its walls collapsed during a storm, the Kilby Hotel was taken down in 2014. Even though the building is gone, its history and importance to the community are still remembered.
