Kimberly Hawthorne is an American actress known for her roles on TV. She started her acting journey on Broadway stages and in daytime soap operas. Later, she moved on to bigger roles in popular TV shows.

From 2000 to 2005, Kim was a regular on the Canadian police drama Da Vinci's Inquest. She played Detective Rose Williams. More recently, from 2016 to 2020, she starred as Kerissa Greenleaf in the hit Oprah Winfrey Network drama series, Greenleaf.

Kim Hawthorne's Early Life

Kim Hawthorne was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, in the United States. She went to Birmingham–Southern College in Alabama. There, she earned a degree in musical theatre.

After college, Kim started her professional acting career on stage. Her first theatre performance was at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia. In the mid-1990s, she moved to New York City to continue her acting work.

Kim Hawthorne's Acting Career

Kim Hawthorne's first TV appearance was in an episode of the NBC drama series, I'll Fly Away. While living in Atlanta, she also appeared in three episodes of In the Heat of the Night.

Early TV and Broadway Roles

From 1995 to 1996, Kim played Belinda Keefer in the ABC daytime soap opera, All My Children. Another actress, Amelia Marshall, later took over this role. In 1997, Kim also replaced Michelle Hurd in the role of Dana Kramer on the NBC soap opera, Another World.

From 1997 to 1998, she performed on Broadway in Cy Coleman's musical The Life. After her soap opera and Broadway work, she made guest appearances on many popular shows. These included Cosby, The Outer Limits, Stargate SG-1, and The L Word.

Key Roles in TV Series

From 2000 to 2005, Kim Hawthorne had a regular role as Detective Rose Williams in the Canadian police drama series Da Vinci's Inquest. During this time, she also had recurring roles on Dark Angel and Jeremiah.

In 2006, she was a regular cast member in the short-lived HBO comedy series, Lucky Louie. The show starred comedian Louis C.K.. The next year, she co-starred in the Canadian drama, Whistler.

In 2014, she had a recurring role on the Fox legal drama, Rake. Kim also appeared in episodes of many well-known crime and medical dramas. Some of these include CSI: Miami, Private Practice, Rizzoli & Isles, Southland, Castle, Criminal Minds, and NCIS: Los Angeles.

Starring in Greenleaf and Recent Work

In 2015, Kim Hawthorne was chosen for one of the main roles in the Oprah Winfrey Network drama series, Greenleaf. She played Kerissa Greenleaf, who was the ambitious wife of Lamman Rucker's character. The series was very popular and ended in 2020 after five seasons.

After Greenleaf, Kim appeared in other well-known shows. These included How to Get Away with Murder, Criminal Minds, and The Good Doctor. In 2022, she had recurring roles in the Netflix legal drama series, The Lincoln Lawyer, and the CBS series, SEAL Team. In 2023, Kim Hawthorne also had a recurring role in the Peacock miniseries, Mrs. Davis.
