Kimberly Ilana Thompson is a talented American drummer and music educator. She is known for her amazing drumming skills.
Early Life and Music Journey
Kimberly Ilana Thompson was born in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in St. Louis, Missouri.
Kimberly started playing the drums when she was just ten years old. She played drums in her high school band at Pattonville High School.
Later, she studied music at the Manhattan School of Music. She earned a bachelor's degree in jazz composition in 2003.
Music Career
Kimberly Thompson is the President of KTMUSICPRODUCTIONS. This is a record label started by women. It is based in Harlem, New York.
She has released all her music albums through her own label. Her first album, Like Clockwork, came out in 2010. Her most recent album is Treasures Abound. It was released in April 2016. This album is a tribute to famous jazz musicians. It features her strong drumming and original jazz songs. She performs these songs with her jazz quartet.
Kimberly has played drums for many famous artists. She has been a session or touring drummer for Beyoncé. She also played with fusion guitarist Mike Stern.
She has performed with The 8G Band on the NBC talk show Late Night with Seth Meyers. Kimberly has also played with her own group, the Kimberly Thompson Quartet. They performed at New York's Jazz and Colors festival.
Kimberly is also working on a musical for Broadway. It is about the singer Donna Summer. She also appeared in Romy & Michelle. This was a stage play based on the 1997 movie Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. She performed in Seattle in June 2017.
