Kinderpost, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Kinderpost is a small, quiet place in northern Texas County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and maybe a few buildings that don't have their own local government, like a mayor or city council. Instead, it's part of the larger county. Kinderpost is located about 6.5 miles (around 10.5 kilometers) northwest of a town called Licking. A pretty stream named Spring Creek flows nearby, just to the east of the community.

The Story Behind Kinderpost's Name

The name Kinderpost has a special meaning! It comes from the German word for "children." The person who helped start this community was very fond of children. Because of this, they decided to name the new place "Kinderpost" to honor that feeling. It's a sweet way to remember the community's beginnings.

When Kinderpost Had a Post Office

For many years, Kinderpost had its very own post office. This post office first opened its doors in 1906. Having a local post office was very important for communities back then. It was how people sent and received letters, packages, and news. It also served as a central meeting point for people living in the area. The Kinderpost post office stayed open for a long time, serving the community for nearly 50 years, until it finally closed in 1954.
