King Green (born Bobby Ray Green; September 9, 1986) is an American professional mixed martial artist. He is known for his exciting fighting style and long career. He currently competes in the Lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Green has been a professional fighter since 2008. He is a former champion in the King of the Cage promotion, holding both the Lightweight and Junior Welterweight titles. He has also fought in other major organizations like Strikeforce.

About King Green
Green was born in San Bernardino, California. When he was five years old, he became a foster child. He started wrestling in high school at A.B. Miller High School in Fontana, California. He was very good at wrestling, placing high in state tournaments twice. Green decided to become a professional mixed martial artist while also working to support his son.
Mixed Martial Arts Journey
Starting His Career
Green began his professional mixed martial arts career in January 2008. He quickly built an impressive record of 8 wins and only 1 loss in his early fights. This strong start caught the attention of bigger fighting organizations.
He later joined the King of the Cage promotion. On February 25, 2010, Green won the King of the Cage Junior Welterweight Championship. He successfully defended this title once. Later, on April 21, he also won the King of the Cage Lightweight Championship.
Fighting in Strikeforce
In July 2011, Green signed a contract with Strikeforce, another big mixed martial arts organization at the time. His first fight in Strikeforce was against Gesias Cavalcante. It was a very close fight, but Green lost by a split decision.
He then had a great win against Charon Spain, winning by submission in the second round. Green continued to show his skills, winning against J. P. Reese and James Terry. He also defeated Matt Ricehouse by unanimous decision in August 2012.
Joining the UFC
Green joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), which is the biggest mixed martial arts organization in the world. His first UFC win was on February 2, 2013, at UFC 156. He defeated Jacob Volkmann with a rear-naked choke submission in the third round. This impressive performance earned him the Submission of the Night award.
Green continued to have many exciting fights in the UFC. He won against James Krause and Pat Healy in 2013. In 2014, he had a big win against Josh Thomson by split decision.
Throughout his UFC career, Green has faced many tough opponents. He has earned several special awards for his fights. These include Performance of the Night awards for his wins against Al Iaquinta, Tony Ferguson, and Grant Dawson. He has also received Fight of the Night awards for his exciting matches against Lando Vannata (twice), Rafael Fiziev, and Drew Dober.
In 2022, Green faced Islam Makhachev in a main event fight, but he lost in the first round. He also faced Drew Dober in December 2022 in a fight that earned him another Fight of the Night bonus.
In April 2023, Green fought Jared Gordon. He won by knockout, but the result was later changed to a "no contest" because of an accidental clash of heads during the fight.
Green continued to compete in 2023 and 2024. He defeated Tony Ferguson by technical submission in July 2023, earning a Performance of the Night award. In October 2023, he knocked out Grant Dawson in the first round, which also earned him a Performance of the Night bonus.
In April 2024, Green won a unanimous decision against Jim Miller at UFC 300. He fought Paddy Pimblett in July 2024 and lost by submission. His most recent fight was in March 2025 against Mauricio Ruffy, which he lost by knockout. Green is scheduled to fight Carlos Diego Ferreira in August 2025.
Personal Life
King Green has three children. He announced that he would be changing his name from Bobby Green to King after his fight with Jared Gordon. He officially confirmed his name change to "King Green" on July 7, 2024.
