The Kingsbury Covered Bridge, also known as the Hyde Covered Bridge, is a special wooden bridge in Randolph, Vermont. It lets cars cross the Second Branch of the White River. This bridge was built in 1904. It's important because it was the very last covered bridge built in Vermont during a time when many were being constructed. In 1974, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's a really important historical site.

About the Kingsbury Bridge

The Kingsbury Covered Bridge is found in the southern part of Randolph. It is just west of Vermont Route 14 on Kingsbury Road. This road is not very busy.

What Does It Look Like?

This bridge is a single-span bridge. It uses a special design called a King post truss. The main parts of the bridge are about 51 feet (15.5 meters) long. They rest on strong stone supports.

The bridge is about 18 feet (5.5 meters) wide. The road inside is about 15.5 feet (4.7 meters) wide, which is enough for one car at a time. The outside of the bridge is covered with vertical wooden boards. It has a metal roof to protect it from the weather. There are no windows on the sides. The ends and inside are also covered with wooden boards.

History of the Bridge

The Kingsbury Covered Bridge was built in 1904. We don't know who the builder was. This bridge is the newest of Vermont's old covered bridges. After it was built, no new covered bridges were made in Vermont until the 1960s.

The bridge has been repaired several times. It was first fixed up in 1980. But it closed soon after because of damage from ice. It was repaired again in 1994. Another big repair project was finished in 2009. These repairs help keep the old bridge safe for people to use today.
