A Look Back: Kingsland's History
The Kingsland Family and Their Land
Long ago, a powerful family called the Kingslands owned a huge piece of land here. This area was known as Kingsland Manor. It was part of a larger region called New Barbadoes Neck.
The Arrival of the Railroad
A big change came to Kingsland in 1872. The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad built a train line right through the community. They also built a train station, which they named "Kingsland" to honor the family who owned the land.
Life Around the Train Station
The railroad brought more than just trains. A special shop was built for working on the trains. Houses were also built for the people who worked for the railroad. For a while, even church services were held right inside the train station! Kingsland also had its own post office, making it an important local spot.
