Kinoosao facts for kids
Kinoosao is a small, quiet community in northern Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located on the eastern side of a large lake called Reindeer Lake.
Getting to Kinoosao by road is a bit unique. You can only reach it by driving through another province, Manitoba. You would use Manitoba Provincial Road 394 and Saskatchewan Highway 994. The closest town, Lynn Lake, Manitoba, is more than 95 kilometers away. Kinoosao is one of only two communities in Saskatchewan that you can only reach by first entering a neighboring province.
In May 2006, about 60 people lived in Kinoosao. They lived in 16 homes. The community is part of Division 18 in Saskatchewan.
The name "Kinoosao" comes from the Cree language. It means "fish." There are other towns in Canada with names from the Cree word for fish, like Kinuso, Alberta and Kinistino, Saskatchewan. Kinoosao is also one of eight communities that belong to the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation.

History of Kinoosao
The community of Kinoosao started in November 1952. At that time, a group of fishermen wanted to build a special plant. This plant would prepare fish for sale. It was meant to help the people living around Reindeer Lake.
Mail service began in Kinoosao in 1954. Letters and packages arrived twice a month. The mail came from La Ronge, another town in Saskatchewan.

Kinoosao is a very small and quiet place. There are no restaurants, hotels, or campgrounds in the community. It is a peaceful spot right on the shore of Reindeer Lake.
