A Look at Its History

Early Mentions

The first time we hear about Kinord Castle was in 1335. At that time, people who supported a leader named David de Strathbogie found safety there. This happened after a battle called the battle of Culblean. The castle offered them a secure place to stay.

A Noble's Home

The castle is mentioned again in records from 1505. A few years later, in 1511, a powerful person used it. This was Alexander Gordon, who was the Earl of Huntly. He used Kinord Castle as his large home or mansion.

The Castle's End

In 1646, the castle was fixed up and had soldiers living in it. This means it was "garrisoned." However, its time was short. Just two years later, in 1648, the government decided to tear it down. This was done by an "act of Parliament."
