A Secret Mission Begins

In early 1915, the CID started to hear about plans for a rebellion. This rebellion was meant to start within the British Indian Army in a region called Punjab. The CID needed someone to find out more.

Kirpal Singh was chosen for this secret mission. He had a cousin who was part of the Ghadar Party. This group was planning the rebellion. Because of his cousin, Kirpal Singh was able to join the Ghadar Party's leaders. He was even assigned to work in his cousin's army group, the 23rd Cavalry.

Getting Key Information

Soon, some people in the Ghadar Party started to suspect Kirpal Singh was a spy. They thought he was secretly working for the British. Even with this danger, Kirpal Singh managed to get the vital information. He found out the exact date and how big the planned rebellion would be. He quickly passed this information to British intelligence.

The Day of the Uprising

As the planned date for the rebellion got closer, one of the Ghadar Party leaders, Rash Behari Bose, changed the date. He moved the uprising to the evening of February 19. Kirpal Singh found out about this change on the very same day.

A Narrow Escape

The Ghadar Party members did not try to stop Kirpal Singh. He quickly ran to tell Liaqat Khan about the new plans. Kirpal Singh was told to go back to his army station. His job was to signal when the rebels had gathered. However, the rebels tried to hold him back. Kirpal Singh cleverly pretended he needed to use the restroom. Under this cover, he managed to escape and complete his mission.
