Kissing is a small town, also known as a municipality, located in the Aichach-Friedberg district in Bavaria, Germany. It is about 10 kilometers (or 6 miles) south of a larger city called Augsburg. In the year 2003, about 11,500 people lived in Kissing.

A Glimpse into Kissing's Past

Kissing was first written about in the year 1050. Back then, it was known as Chissingin.

Ancient Gatherings

Even before 1050, around the year 500, there was a special place near Kissing called a "thing hill." A thing was like an old-fashioned meeting place where people would gather to discuss important issues and make decisions. Sadly, this ancient meeting hill was later washed away by big floods from the nearby Lech river.

You might have heard the last name Kissinger, like the famous politician Henry Kissinger. This surname actually means someone who comes from a place called Bad Kissingen. It's interesting how names can tell us about where people or their families originally came from!
