Kiyotaka Matsui was born in Takatsuki, Osaka on January 4, 1961. After finishing his studies at Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences, he began his professional football journey.
Starting with Nippon Kokan (NKK)
In 1983, Matsui joined a team called Nippon Kokan, which later became known simply as NKK. He quickly became an important player for them. From 1985, his team had a great run, finishing second in the Japan Soccer League for three years in a row. This showed how strong they were as a team.
One of his biggest achievements with NKK was winning the 1987 JSL Cup in 1987. This was a major trophy for the club and a highlight of Matsui's time there. He played a total of 170 games for NKK during his career.
Moving to Shimizu S-Pulse
In 1992, Matsui made a big move to Shimizu S-Pulse. This was an exciting time because he joined the new J.League, which was a fresh start for Japanese professional football. He played for Shimizu S-Pulse until he decided to retire from playing in 1993.
