The Astragalus californicus, also known as the Klamath Basin milkvetch, is a special type of milkvetch plant. It's a plant that grows naturally in the Klamath Mountains and the nearby High Cascade Ranges. You can find it in northern California and southern Oregon. This plant likes to grow in areas with scrub (small bushes) and woodlands.

What Does the Klamath Basin Milkvetch Look Like?

The Klamath Basin milkvetch is a plant that lives for many years. It's called a perennial plant. It grows in a strong, open clump with stems that stand upright. These stems can reach about 1.5 feet (0.46 m) (or 45 centimeters) tall.

Leaves and Flowers

The leaves of this plant are several centimeters long. They are made up of many smaller, green, leaf-like parts called leaflets.

When the plant blooms, it produces a loose group of flowers. These flowers are light yellow to cream-colored and look a bit like pea flowers. Each flower is about 1 to 2 centimeters long.

Fruit Pods

After the flowers bloom, the plant grows fruit. The fruit is a hanging pod called a legume. These pods are about 3 or 4 centimeters long. They are flat and narrow, with a slightly hairy surface. When they dry, they become thick and feel like paper.
