Klaus Siebert (born April 29, 1955 – died April 24, 2016) was a famous German biathlete and coach. He competed for East Germany. Biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Klaus Siebert was known for his amazing skills in both parts of this challenging sport.

Klaus Siebert was born in Schlettau, East Germany. He became a top biathlete, which is a sport combining cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. He was very successful in the late 1970s.

Olympic and World Championship Success

Klaus Siebert won many medals during his career. At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, he earned a silver medal. This was for the relay race, where he teamed up with other biathletes from East Germany.

He also had great success at the Biathlon World Championships.

  • In 1978 and 1979, he won two gold medals with his relay team.
  • He also won a bronze medal in the relay in 1977.
  • As an individual, he won a gold medal in the 20 km race in 1979.
  • He also earned two bronze medals in the 10 km sprint race in 1975 and 1978.

Life as a Coach

After he stopped competing, Klaus Siebert became a biathlon coach. He shared his knowledge and experience with new athletes. He coached teams in Germany, China, and Belarus.

In January 2012, he returned to coach the Belarusian national biathlon team. He had been ill with cancer before this. However, he had to step down from coaching in 2014 due to ongoing health issues.

Klaus Siebert passed away in Altenberg, Germany, on April 24, 2016. He was 60 years old and had battled cancer for a long time.
