Knightswood St. Margaret's Parish Church was a special church in Glasgow, Scotland. It was part of the Church of Scotland and served the Knightswood area for many years.

History of the Church

Building a New Church

The idea for this church came from the Church of Scotland's Presbytery of Dumbarton. They wanted to build a church because Glasgow was planning a big new housing area. The church was created by taking parts from other church areas nearby.

Location and Design

The church is located at 2000 Great Western Road. A church hall was opened in 1925 and was used as the main church for seven years. The main church building was designed by a famous architect, Sir Robert Lorimer. It was officially opened in 1932.

Unique Stone Structure

This church is special because it was built entirely of stone. It was the very last stone church ever built in Scotland. Sadly, Sir Robert Lorimer passed away before the church was completely finished.

Inside the Church: Organ and Windows

The church has an amazing organ in the back. It was built in 1865 and is very important. This organ was saved from another church that was being torn down. It was moved to St. Margaret's in 2002.

You could also see beautiful stained glass windows in the church. Some were made by Alexander Russell in 1957. Others, like the one showing St. Margaret, were made by Herbert Hendrie in 1932.

Church Closure

Knightswood St. Margaret's Church closed in September 2024. Its members joined with two other churches, Annieland Temple and St. David's Knightswood. Together, they formed a new church called Knightswood Anniesland Trinity Church. In April 2025, it was not yet known what would happen to the old church building or its organ.

Church Leaders

Ministers of the Church

The church was part of the Church of Scotland's Presbytery of Glasgow. The last minister, Rev. Sandy Fraser, retired. Before him, Rev. Adam Dillon was the minister. He later moved to lead another church in Kirkintilloch.

A Special Moderator

Another person who used to be a minister at this church was the Very Rev. Dr. David Lacy. He served from 1977 to 1989. He later became the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 2005-2006. This is a very important leadership role in the Church of Scotland.
