This book was a huge hit! It quickly became the number one book on The New York Times Best Seller list. Amazon.com also picked it as one of their Top 10 Children's Picture Books for 2010. Mo Willems was even a finalist for Illustrator of the Year in 2011 because of his amazing artwork in this book.

What Happens in the Story?

The story follows a girl named Trixie Willems and her family. They go on a trip to visit her grandparents in Holland. On the airplane, Trixie accidentally leaves her favorite stuffed rabbit, Knuffle Bunny. She doesn't realize he's gone until it's too late! Knuffle Bunny is now on his way to China.

Trixie feels very sad about losing her bunny. Her family tries to cheer her up. They tell her she is getting older and needs to be brave. Even though she is still sad, Trixie goes to bed.

That night, Trixie has a wonderful dream. She dreams of all the exciting places Knuffle Bunny will visit. She imagines all the fun adventures he will have without her. This dream makes her feel much better and comforts her.

Soon, Trixie's vacation ends, and it's time to fly back home to New York City. Guess what? It's the same airplane! And guess who is waiting for her in a seat pocket? Knuffle Bunny! Trixie is super excited to see him.

But then, Trixie sees a baby crying on the plane. She knows how much comfort Knuffle Bunny can bring. So, Trixie does something very kind. She gives Knuffle Bunny to the crying baby to help them feel better.

In a special note at the end, the author Mo Willems shares a sweet message. He wishes the real Trixie, who is his daughter, a happy life. He also guesses that Knuffle Bunny might return someday. Maybe Knuffle Bunny will be a playmate for Trixie's own child in the future!
