About Kobi Oz
Kobi Oz was born in Sderot, Israel. His parents were from Tunisia. They moved to Israel in 1942. They wanted to escape a government that supported the Nazis during World War II.
Early Music Career
In 1985, Yaakov Uzan started using the stage name Kobi Oz. He began playing music and writing songs. He first played keyboards for a band called Sfatayim. This band performed traditional Moroccan music.
In 1988, Oz released two solo songs. These were "Silonim" (Jets) and "Lispor kvasim" (Counting Sheep). These songs did not become very popular at first. "Lispor kvasim" was later used again in 1992. It appeared on Teapacks' first album.
Forming Teapacks
Two years later, in 1990, Kobi Oz formed the band Teapacks. He started the band with guitarist Einav Cohen, bassist Gal Peremen, and drummer Tamir Yemini. The band has had many changes in its members. However, Kobi Oz and Gal Peremen are still in the band today.
Music Videos and Family Stories
Some old videos of Oz playing with Sfatayim were used in a Teapacks music video. This was for the song "Avodat kapayim" (Manual Labour) in 2016. The song itself tells the story of Oz's time in Sfatayim.
This was not the first time Oz used old videos in his music. The song "Elohai" (God), released in 2010, used videos from Oz's Bar Mitzvah. It also included a recording of his grandfather singing. Another song, "Lo haya lano klum" (We Had Nothing), tells the story of Jewish people moving from Arab and Muslim countries. The music video for this song features Oz's mother, Rachel Uzan.
Books and Community Work
Kobi Oz has also written two books. These are Petty ... (2002) and Moshe Chuato and the Raven (1996).
In 2007, he helped organize a large event. This event was to bring attention to his hometown, Sderot. Sderot was often attacked by missiles from a nearby area. About 40,000 people came to Rabin Square in Tel Aviv. They came to show their support for the people of Sderot.
In 2010, Oz released his second solo album. It was called Mizmorey Nevochim (Psalms for the Perplexed).
