Kohei Morita (盛田 剛平, Morita Kohei, born July 13, 1976) is a former Japanese football player. He was born on July 13, 1976. Morita played as both a forward, scoring goals, and a defender, stopping opponents. He had a long career playing for several clubs in Japan's J.League.

Kohei Morita's Football Journey

Kohei Morita was born in Nagoya on July 13, 1976. After finishing university, he started his professional football career.

Early Career as a Forward

In 1999, Morita joined Urawa Reds, a club in the top Japanese league, J1 League. He played as a center forward. However, he found it hard to score goals. The team was then moved down to the J2 League in 2000.

In 2001, Morita played for two different clubs: Cerezo Osaka and Kawasaki Frontale. He did not get to play many games for either team.

Time at Omiya Ardija

In 2002, Morita moved to Omiya Ardija, a J2 League club. He played many matches as a forward until 2003. In 2004, he did not play much.

Switch to Defender at Sanfrecce Hiroshima

In August 2004, Morita joined Sanfrecce Hiroshima. He played regularly in 2004. However, in 2005, he again did not play many games.

In 2006, something big changed for Morita. He switched his position from forward to defender. He played many games as a left back in a three-defender system. His team, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, reached the final of the 2007 Emperor's Cup.

Morita faced an injury in 2010 and could not play at all. But he made a strong comeback in the 2011 season.

Ventforet Kofu and Return to J1

In 2012, Morita moved to Ventforet Kofu, another J2 League club. He became a regular player as a center back. Ventforet Kofu won the J2 League championship in 2012. This meant they were promoted back to the J1 League in 2013.

From 2014, Morita changed his position again. He played as a forward because the team needed more players in that role. However, he played fewer games from 2015 onwards.

Final Season and Retirement

In 2017, Morita joined Thespakusatsu Gunma, a J2 League club. He played as a forward in his final season. Kohei Morita retired from professional football at the end of 2017, when he was 41 years old.
