Koichi Sekimoto (born May 23, 1978 – died January 23, 2016) was a Japanese football player. He played as a defender. Sekimoto was known for his time with the club Sagan Tosu.
Playing Career
Koichi Sekimoto was born in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, on May 23, 1978. After finishing high school, he started his professional football journey. In 1997, he joined the Japan Football League club Sagan Tosu.
He quickly became an important player for Sagan Tosu. He played in many matches during his first season. In 1999, his club, Sagan Tosu, moved up to the J2 League. This was a higher division in Japanese football.
Sekimoto played for Sagan Tosu until the end of the 2002 season. After that, he took a break from professional football. In 2013, he returned to play for a club called FC Ise-Shima. This club was part of the Japanese Prefectural Leagues.
Sadly, Koichi Sekimoto became ill in August 2014. He passed away on January 23, 2016, in Osaka Prefecture, at the age of 37.
