Koichi Togashi (冨樫 剛一, Togashi Kōichi), born on July 15, 1971, is a Japanese football (soccer) player who used to play professionally. He is now a football manager. He currently coaches the Japan Under-20 national team.

Koichi Togashi's Playing Career

Koichi Togashi was born in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. He started his football journey in 1990. He joined a team called Yomiuri. This team later became known as Verdy Kawasaki.

Early Years as a Player

During his time at Yomiuri and Verdy Kawasaki, Koichi Togashi did not play many matches. In 1995, he moved to another team, Yokohama Flügels. He still found it hard to get playing time there.

Moving to Consadole Sapporo

After a year, he joined Consadole Sapporo. This team was in the Japan Football League at the time. He played as a central defender for them. Consadole Sapporo was promoted to the J1 League at the end of the 1997 season. Koichi Togashi decided to retire from playing football at the end of that same year.

Koichi Togashi's Coaching Journey

After he stopped playing, Koichi Togashi began his coaching career. This was in 1998, with his old team, Verdy Kawasaki.

Coaching Youth Teams

In 2002, he moved to Consadole Sapporo for a short time. He returned to Verdy in 2003. For many years, he mostly coached the youth teams. He helped young players develop their skills.

Becoming a Top Team Manager

In September 2014, the main team's manager, Yasutoshi Miura, left the club. Koichi Togashi then took over as the new manager. He led the team until 2016. In 2022, he started coaching the Japan U19 team. Later that year, he became the caretaker manager for the Japan U20 team. Since 2023, he has been the official manager for the Japan U20 team.

Koichi Togashi's Family Life

Koichi Togashi has a son named Ryoo. Ryoo also plays professional football. He is currently playing for a club in the Hong Kong Premier League called Southern.
