Koichi Togashi (冨樫 剛一, Togashi Kōichi, born July 15, 1971) is a Japanese football coach and former player. He used to play as a defender and now he coaches young football players for the Japan U20 team.

Playing Career

Koichi Togashi was born in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, on July 15, 1971. He started his football journey with the youth team of Yomiuri in 1987. In 1990, he joined their main team, which later became Verdy Kawasaki.

During his time at Verdy Kawasaki, he didn't play many games. In 1995, he moved to Yokohama Flügels, but again, he didn't get much playing time. After that, he joined Consadole Sapporo, a team in the Japan Football League.

At Consadole Sapporo, Koichi Togashi played as a central defender. He helped the team get promoted to the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league, at the end of the 1997 season. He stopped playing football professionally at the end of 1997.

Coaching Career

After finishing his playing career, Koichi Togashi started coaching in 1998. He began coaching at Verdy Kawasaki, the same club where he used to play.

In 2002, he moved to Consadole Sapporo for a short time. Then, in 2003, he returned to Tokyo Verdy. For many years, he mainly coached the club's youth teams, helping young players develop their skills.

In September 2014, the main team's manager, Yasutoshi Miura, left. Koichi Togashi took over as the new manager for Tokyo Verdy. He managed the team until 2016. Later, he became a coach for Japan's national youth teams, including the Japan U19 and Japan U20 teams. He is currently the manager of the Japan U20 team.

Personal Life

Koichi Togashi has a son named Ryoo Togashi. Ryoo is also a professional football player. He currently plays for a club called Southern in the Hong Kong Premier League.
