Kokangol facts for kids
The Kokangol (also called Koko-Gol or Yuwula) are believed to have been an Indigenous Australian group from Queensland. Some people disagree with this. They think "Kokangol" might be another name for the Aghu Tharnggala language. Or, it could just be the name of a person who helped researchers.
Where the Kokangol Lived
Historians believe the Kokangol were a unique group. They were different from their neighbors, the Olkola people. The Kokangol lived along the Upper Alice River in Queensland. Their land covered about 1,800 square miles. This area was inland from the Yir-Yoront people's territory.
About the Kokangol People
In 1897, it was thought that about 600 Kokangol people lived in the area. There are not many old records that talk about them directly. Most of what we know comes from a report by William Parry-Okeden. They are also briefly mentioned in a book about Queensland Aboriginal rock art. This book was written by Percy Trezise and Dick Roughsey.
