A Look at Alice River's Past
Alice River has an interesting history with two names! The area was first called Rupertswood. This name came from a developer, Sir Rupert Clarke. He named it after his family's old home, also called "Rupertswood", in Sunbury, Victoria.
However, the name Alice River was given earlier, in 1865. It was named by someone from the Bell & Reid group, possibly after a lady they knew.
Growing Suburbs
Alice River and its nearby suburb, Rangewood, are growing fast. Many new homes are being built here. This is because there's lots of flat land available. Also, it's close to the Townsville Orbital road and James Cook University. Older suburbs to the east are already mostly built up. This means Alice River has more room to expand.
