Hervey Range is a rural area in Queensland, Australia. It is split between two local government areas: the City of Townsville and the Charters Towers Region. In 2021, about 295 people lived in Hervey Range.

Hervey Range Geography
As its name suggests, Hervey Range includes the Hervey mountain range. The border between the two local government areas generally follows the top of the mountain range. The Townsville side of the area is closer to the coast and is lower, usually between 50 and 100 metres above sea level. The Charters Towers side is further inland and much higher, around 550 to 600 metres above sea level.
Railway History and Roads
A railway line, called the Greenvale railway line, used to run through Hervey Range. This line is now closed. It has three tunnels and an old, unused train station called Kadara railway station.
The main road in the area is the Hervey Range Developmental Road. It crosses the locality from the north-east to the west.
Hervey Range History
The mountain range and the area itself were named in 1861. Phillip Somers named them after Matthew Hervey. Matthew Hervey owned a large farm, called a pastoral station, named Dotswood. Phillip Somers and Matthew Hervey were partners in this farm. Somers was also part of an exploration trip led by Allan Cunningham.
The local Aboriginal people call the Hervey Range Barringha. This is also their name for a plant called the Western Silver Wattle.
