Exploring Condon's Location
Condon is found in the Upper Ross District. It is the first of three suburbs you'll see along Riverway Drive.
Roads and Rivers in Condon
Townsville's main Ring Road, which is now part of the Bruce Highway, goes right through Condon. This road helps people travel around the city. The Vickers Bridge crosses the Ross River, connecting Condon to Douglas and other southern suburbs.
Two other important roads form the boundaries of Condon:
- Hervey Range Road runs along the northern edge.
- Garbutt–Upper Ross Road (also known as Riverway Drive) runs along the eastern side.
Condon's History and Naming
The first houses were built in Condon in 1968. The suburb was officially named on March 1, 1969.
How Condon Got Its Name
Condon was named by the Queensland Place Names Board. It honors the Condon family, who came from Ireland. William Condon and his family settled near the Ross River and had a dairy farm there a long time ago.
Schools Opening in Condon
Two important schools opened in Condon:
- Thuringowa State High School welcomed its first students on January 27, 1987.
- Shalom Christian College started in 1992. It was founded by the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress, which is part of the Uniting Church in Australia. In 2018, a group called Carinity bought the school. They planned to bring back its high school program.

In 2017, the school had 726 students. It also has a special education program to support students with different learning needs.
Shalom Christian College
Shalom Christian College is a private school for students from Prep (the year before Year 1) all the way through to Year 12. You can find it at 190 Hervey's Range Road (19°19′11″S 146°42′40″E / 19.3197°S 146.7110°E). In 2017, there were 251 students attending the college.
