Komi Sélom Klassou was born on February 10, 1960, in Notsé, Togo. He is a Togolese politician who held important roles in his country's government. Most notably, he served as the Prime Minister of Togo from 2015 to 2020.

Klassou is a member of the ruling political party called the Union for the Republic (UNIR). Before becoming Prime Minister, he held several other significant positions.

Komi Sélom Klassou's Journey in Politics

Komi Sélom Klassou began his career in public service in the early 2000s. He has been involved in Togolese politics for many years, helping to shape the country's future.

Serving as a Minister

Klassou first became a minister in the Togolese government in October 2000. He was appointed as the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. In this role, he helped oversee programs related to arts, sports, and activities for young people.

In July 2003, he took on a new responsibility. He became the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education. This job meant he was in charge of schools and learning for children and teenagers across Togo. He held this position for more than four years.

During this time, he also played a key part in the 2005 presidential election. He managed the election campaign for Faure Gnassingbé, who later became the President of Togo.

Leading the National Assembly

In October 2007, Klassou was elected to the National Assembly. This is Togo's parliament, where laws are made. He represented the Haho Prefecture.

Soon after, in November 2007, his colleagues in the National Assembly chose him for an important leadership role. He was elected as the First Vice-President of the National Assembly. This meant he was one of the main leaders of the parliament. Because of this new role, he left his position as Minister of Primary and Secondary Education.

Klassou was re-elected to the National Assembly in July 2013. He was also re-elected as the First Vice-President of the National Assembly in September 2013.

Becoming Prime Minister

After President Gnassingbé was re-elected in April 2015, he chose Komi Sélom Klassou to be the new Prime Minister of Togo. Klassou officially started his role as Prime Minister on June 10, 2015. He took over from the previous Prime Minister, Kwesi Ahoomey-Zunu.

As Prime Minister, Klassou was in charge of leading the government and making sure its plans were carried out. The new government under his leadership was announced in June 2015 and included 23 ministers.

Klassou served as Prime Minister for over five years. In September 2020, President Faure Gnassingbé announced that Klassou had resigned from his position.
