About the Show's Creation
Celebrating a Classic Story
This anime series was made to celebrate two big anniversaries! It marked 100 years since the original Anne of Green Gables book by Lucy Maud Montgomery came out in 1908. It also celebrated 30 years since the very popular Akage no Anne anime was released. That earlier anime was also made by Nippon Animation and was one of the first World Masterpiece Theater shows.
Bringing the World to Life
To make the show look just right, the team at Nippon Animation did a lot of research. They visited a real historical village in southeastern Canada. This village helped inspire the fictional town of Avonlea in the books.
The team went to old houses from the time the story is set and took many photos. They even bought historical books there. The main artists, including character designer Takayo Nishimura, used these photos and books to draw the characters, objects, and places in the anime. This way, everything looked very real and true to the time period.
When and Where It Aired
The first episode of Konnichiwa Anne was shown on April 5, 2009. It aired every Sunday evening in Japan on BS-Fuji, which is a TV network. Later, in May 2009, it also started airing on another network called Animax.
