Koo Hye-sun (born November 9, 1984) is a multi-talented star from South Korea. She is known for being an actress, a singer-songwriter, a movie director, and an artist. Many people know her from popular TV shows like Boys Over Flowers, Hearts of Nineteen, and Angel Eyes.

Career
Becoming an Actress
Koo Hye-sun first became known online as an ulzzang, a Korean term for someone with a very pretty face. She trained to be a singer with big entertainment companies like SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment. At YG Entertainment, the company's head, Yang Hyun-suk, suggested she try acting instead of music.
She started appearing in commercials and small TV roles. Her role in the comedy show Nonstop 5 in 2004 helped people notice her talent.
Koo became very famous after starring in the 2006 TV drama Hearts of Nineteen. She continued to impress audiences in historical dramas like The King and I and Strongest Chil Woo.
Her biggest role came in 2009 when she played Geum Jan-di in the hit drama Boys Over Flowers. The show was a massive success all over Asia and made her an international star.
After Boys Over Flowers, she starred in other shows like the musical drama The Musical and Take Care of Us, Captain, where she played a female pilot. In 2014, she played a blind woman who gets her sight back in the drama Angel Eyes. The next year, she starred in the vampire series Blood.
Writing and Singing Songs
Besides acting, Koo is also a talented musician. She has released her own songs and albums. In 2009, she released her first album, Breath, which featured new-age music. She even wrote a song for her friend, the singer Gummy.
She has released many digital singles, like "Brown Hair" and "It's You." For "It's You," she not only wrote the song but also filmed and edited the music video herself. In 2015, she released her second album, Breath 2. She also held her first concert that year. In 2022, she released an album of her piano music.
Directing Movies
Koo is also a skilled movie director. She made her first short film, The Madonna, in 2009. The film was shown at several film festivals and won awards. She said she enjoys making films because it allows her to combine all her interests, like music, art, and writing.
Her first full-length movie was Magic (2010). She later directed The Peach Tree (2012) and Daughter (2014). In Daughter, she also acted in the main role. She started her own company, Koo Hye-sun Film, to produce her movies.
Art and Charity Work
Koo is a talented artist who draws and writes. In 2009, she published her first novel, Tango, which became a bestseller. At the same time, she held her first art exhibition, also called "Tango," showing about 40 of her drawings.
She has held many other art shows since then. She often donates the money she makes from selling her art to charities. For example, she donated proceeds to help children with leukemia. Because of her many talents and kind acts, she has won awards for sharing happiness and making a positive impact.
Personal Life
Koo Hye-sun began dating her co-star from the show Blood, Ahn Jae-hyun, in 2015. They were married on May 21, 2016. Instead of having a big wedding, they donated the money to the children's ward of a hospital. The couple even appeared on a reality show called Newlywed Diary that showed their life together.
In 2019, the couple decided to separate, and their divorce was finalized in 2020. After this, Koo announced she would take a break from work to go back to college.
Giving Back
Koo often uses her success to help others.
