What was the Koweta Mission?
The Koweta Mission was a school started a long time ago, in 1843. It was built in a town called Coweta, Oklahoma. The main goal of the mission was to teach Native American children. People called missionaries came to Coweta to start this school. Missionaries are people who travel to new places to teach about their religion and help others.
Who founded the mission?
The Koweta Mission was founded by Reverend Robert McGill Loughridge and his wife, Olivia. They arrived in Coweta in 1843. They bought an empty cabin for ten dollars to use as their first school building. Reverend Loughridge decided to name the mission "Koweta." He and Olivia then began teaching the children.
